The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians

Bike Fitting

The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, is a mobile bike fitting service run by Patrick Lamont, a certified TBF Fit System bike fitter, through his company Eskmouth Services Ltd (SC828140). Patrick fits road, gravel, mountain, triathlon and TT bikes at your home, from £275 with no VAT on top, and a fit usually takes 2 to 3 hours. He's done about 400 fits since 2025 and covers Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Scottish Borders and central Scotland.

In their words

Bike fitting is the art and the science of getting your position on the bike to suit your biomechanics and your riding style, so the ride is efficient, comfortable, powerful and smooth, and the bike isn't forcing you into a position you can't sustain. We do a full biomechanical assessment, and a lot of work on the rider before we even start looking at the bike. And we do all of it at your house, in your garage or at your office, wherever suits you best, so you don't have to pack the bike into the car. We'll work around your work life and the school drop-off. Don't let the bike be the limitation.

Services and prices

Prices are Patrick's full prices, with no VAT on top. They cover a visit anywhere within about an hour and a half of Edinburgh; further away, there may be a small travel supplement (see Areas served). Patrick fits road, gravel, mountain, track, triathlon, TT and indoor bikes.

Standard bike and cleat fit

A full fit at your home for any bike that isn't a TT or triathlon bike. Patrick starts with questions about your riding and a biomechanical assessment of your flexibility and mobility. He sizes your saddle with an idMatch caliper and sets up your cleats with idMatch laser foot measurement, with your first pair of shoes included. Then he watches you ride on a turbo trainer and sets the saddle height and position, the cleats and the front of the bike. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours, and you get a full set of measurements by email to keep.

From: £275.

Triathlon or TT bike fit

The same fit for a bike with a base bar and aero bars. These take longer because there's more to adjust: the stack, the width and angle of the extensions and the width of the pads. The price goes by the type of bike, so a triathlete on a road bike pays £275.

From: £305.

Extra bikes and shoes at the same visit

Once the assessment and foot measurements are done, each extra bike is quicker to set up. Extra bikes can be road, gravel, track or indoor bikes such as a Wattbike, Tacx Neo Smartbike or Wahoo Smart Bike, and need adding when you book.

From: £95 an extra bike, £125 an extra TT or triathlon bike, £15 an extra shoe and cleat set-up.

Free consultation

A free 15 to 20 minute call for anyone who isn't sure a fit is right for them, or who just wants to ask some questions first. Book it on Patrick's page or ring him.

From: free.

Saddles, stems and handlebars

Patrick carries saddles you can test during the fit and take away if you want them, plus some stems and handlebars he can sell and fit there and then. Many new road and gravel bikes need the maker's own stem, which you'd buy yourself; depending on how far away you are, Patrick's happy to come back and fit it. Handlebars with the cables routed inside them need a bike shop.

From: priced on request.

Frame sizing before you buy

Help choosing the right frame size before you buy a new bike.

From: priced on request.

Gift vouchers

Bike fit vouchers, including a Christmas design, ordered from Patrick. A printed voucher is posted to you to give to the rider, who then books their fit.

From: any amount. Most buyers choose the price of a fit.

Club demo evenings

For cycling clubs: Patrick brings his kit, sets up a table, gives a short presentation, shows how the kit works and answers questions. He's available to any club, and very much open to it in October and November.

From: priced on request.

Follow-up

No follow-up visit is included as standard. Patrick asks riders to give a new position 5 to 10 rides, and if something still doesn't feel right after that, he'll look to put it right.

What The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, doesn't do

Patrick isn't a qualified mechanic, so he doesn't do repairs, servicing or gear indexing. He refers riders to a local bike shop or mechanic he knows in their area, across central and southern Scotland. Handlebars with internal cables also go to a bike shop. He doesn't treat injuries: if the assessment points to a muscle imbalance or another restriction, he'll suggest seeing a physio, osteopath or chiropractor.

Areas served

The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, has no premises. Patrick is mobile only and fits bikes at the rider's home, garage or office, centred on Edinburgh.

Edinburgh and the Lothians: Edinburgh, Queensferry, Musselburgh, Dalkeith, Haddington, Gifford, North Berwick, Dunbar, Linlithgow, Bathgate and Livingston, plus nearby Bo'ness and Biggar.

Scottish Borders: Peebles, Melrose, Galashiels, Selkirk and Kelso.

Central Scotland: Falkirk, Stirling, Fife and Clackmannanshire.

The rest of mainland Scotland: Patrick will travel anywhere on the mainland if enough riders in that area want a fit to justify a day or two away. From about an hour and a half from Edinburgh there may be a small travel supplement, decided case by case: about £10 to Dumfries or £20 to Inverness.

Islands: by arrangement, with the rider paying the travel, ferry and accommodation.

Opening hours

  • Monday to Saturday: by appointment, latest start about 6.30pm
  • Sunday: closed

Fits are by appointment only. Patrick works Monday to Saturday and is happy to start as early as you like; the latest he usually starts a fit is about 6.30pm. From April to July he's usually booked two to three weeks ahead, and in the quieter months there's usually a slot within a week or two. Book online through his page, or ring 0131 608 4044: on the phone he can offer more times than the website's morning, midday and evening slots.

Reviews

Rated 5.0 out of 5 on Google from 44 reviews, all five stars (October 2026). Patrick replies to every review.

"Patrick was great. Despite the lack of an indoor space causing the first fitting to be paused part way through, he was flexible and ensured that a follow up session saw me with a full report and the necessary changes made to my setup. Although the adaptions were minimal on paper - 10mm here, 20mm there - the difference I have noticed for my injured knee has been significant and I am at last able to get back out for extended cycles with much less discomfort. I heartily recommend Patrick for anyone looking to improve their bike setup."

"Cannot say enough good things about Patrick's bike fitting service. Extremely thorough and professional from start to finish. So convenient, as Patrick's comes to you. He set me up with new handlebars and a new saddle as well as making various adjustments. It's like I have a new bike now and the changes have made such a difference!! Would highly recommend this service to anyone who cycles or is starting to cycle. Thanks again Patrick!"

Tracey, Google, August 2026

"I'm a 49 year old female road cyclist and have struggled with saddle discomfort for a long time despite getting the right saddle, shorts etc and having a previous bike fitting. The final piece of the jigsaw it seems was a bike fitting with Patrick! My bike fitting was in June and so far, a month on, no discomfort which is remarkable. Patrick had great attention to detail, making adjustments to cleat positioning, saddle height/angle and changing the stem. He's also very personable and put me completely at ease. I could not recommend Patruck enough if you're looking for a comprehensive and professional bike fit."

Frequently asked questions

A standard bike and cleat fit with The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, costs £275, and a triathlon or TT bike fit costs £305. Those are full prices, with no VAT on top, and Patrick Lamont comes to your home in Edinburgh at no extra charge. Each extra bike fitted at the same visit is £95, or £125 for a TT or triathlon bike. The 15 to 20 minute consultation call is free.

A fit with The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, starts with questions about your riding and a biomechanical assessment, including laser foot measurements and saddle sizing. Patrick Lamont then checks the bike and puts it on a turbo trainer. After watching you ride for 4 or 5 minutes, he sets the saddle height, saddle position and cleats, then the handlebars and reach. You get your measurements by email afterwards.

A bike fit with The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, usually takes 2 to 3 hours. A road bike can be a little quicker than a TT or triathlon bike, and it takes longer if a lot needs changing or you want to try several saddles. You need to be there for most of it, but Patrick Lamont will say when he needs 5 to 10 minutes, so you can take a call or answer the door.

Yes, says Patrick Lamont of The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians. He sees riders spend a lot on a new bike, then get a sore back, numbness or knee pain, and leave the bike sitting in the garage. A standard bike and cleat fit costs £275 at your home, and you keep a full set of measurements. Patrick can also help you choose a frame size before you buy.

A triathlon or TT bike fit with The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, costs £305, against £275 for a standard fit, because those bikes take longer to set up. Aero bars mean more to adjust: the stack, the width and angle of the extensions, and the width of the pads. The price goes by the type of bike, so a triathlete on a road bike pays £275.

For a fit with The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, you need about 2 to 3 square metres, roughly two yoga mats: room for your bike on a turbo trainer. A living room, hallway, kitchen or garage all work, and Patrick Lamont brings the rest. Be ready in your cycling kit, at least padded shorts, with your cycling shoes to hand, and clean them first if you ride gravel.

A bike fit can reduce knee pain that comes from your position on the bike, but The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, doesn't treat injuries. Before touching the bike, Patrick Lamont checks things like leg length differences, muscle imbalances and tightness in the pelvis. If the cause looks like your body rather than the bike, he'll suggest a physio, osteopath or chiropractor. A standard fit costs £275.

Yes. The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, fits extra bikes at the same appointment for £95 each, or £125 for an extra TT or triathlon bike. The second bike is quicker because Patrick Lamont has already done the screening, the biomechanical assessment and your foot measurements. Extra bikes can be road, gravel, track or indoor bikes such as a Wattbike, and need adding when you book.

Usually not. The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, only adds a small travel supplement when Patrick Lamont has to travel about an hour and a half or more from Edinburgh, decided case by case: about £10 to Dumfries or £20 to Inverness. He'll travel anywhere on mainland Scotland if enough riders in that area want a fit to justify a day or two away. For a visit to the islands, the rider pays the travel, ferry and accommodation.

Give it 5 to 10 rides first. Patrick Lamont of The Bike Fitters, Edinburgh and Lothians, says a new position puts different stress through your joints and muscles, and one ride isn't enough to judge it. A follow-up visit isn't included as standard, because he's usually confident the fit is right on the day. If something still doesn't feel right after those rides, tell him and he'll look to put it right.
